The Battle of Raymond, part of the US Civil War, took place on the 12th of May, 1863, near Raymond, Mississippi. It resulted in a Union victory.
The Confederates lost 100 soldiers and the Union lost 68.
Though not a large battle compared to many others, it had a significant impact on the Vicksburg Campaign.
US Civil War. Now you’re talking my language. Shame it’s such a short post, but I realise it is a date commemoration thing.
Best wishes, Pete.

I promise to post more. I have so many saved posts and not reblogged for lack of time. I’ll look through and make the Civil War a priority!

I do a lot of those “on this day” posts that are pretty brief (my history blog isn’t my main blog). 🙂
I’m Australian, so I don’t actually know all that much about the US Civil War, and this particular battle doesn’t seem to be very well-known…

Thanks Sonya. No criticism of your blog implied at all. Keep up the good work!
Best wishes, Pete.

Oh, no, I understand what you mean! If I had a particular interest in something I’d definitely want more information than a couple of sentences.
