I watched the John Mills film about his expedition as a boy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040761/ I thought it was so sad, especially when they decided to shoot the ponies. That led me to read about the events in detail when I was in my teens. One of those classic British ‘might have beens’ that is still celebrated to this day.
Best wishes, Pete.
