Wingate was indeed a controversial figure. I don’t know if you recall the TV series about him. Barry Foster portrayed him very well. It might be found on You Tube.

I do remember the series. Foster wasn’t, apparently, the nicest of creatures! I couldn’t bear him in Van der Valk.
