  1. Heehee – and in the year 1067, one year after Hastings, the Normans landed at Bari in Southern Italy. After a 3 year siege they took it from the Byzantines. They brought with them a word – scaringi – which meant “God spear”. Some one back then called a comely young female a “scaringella” – our family name (we spell it with an “a” after the “r” but others don’t) – the name is found only in Bari and those carrying the name can trace their ancestry back to Bari. Seems there was a Norman rascal in the family tree!

    🙂
