The Leader is unavailable: Stalin’s post-invasion breakdown.

  1. Well, I am 12 months older than Stalin was at the time of the invasion, and I know one thing for sure. If I found out that Hitler’s army had invaded Beetley, catching me and Ollie unprepared, I would definitely retire to my bedroom for at least three days. My absence might well involve copious amounts of red wine, brandy, and port, and I am sure that I would immediately return to smoking ‘real’ cigarettes too.
As the author correctly states, Stalin is unlikely to have ever revealed any of his fears, and we have to thank those who followed him for any of the historical reports of the time.
    Best wishes, Pete.
